Edmund Wright (Lord Mayor) : ウィキペディア英語版
Edmund Wright (Lord Mayor)
Sir Edmund Wright (died July 1643) was an English merchant who was Lord Mayor of London in 1640.
Wright was a city of London merchant and a member of the Worshipful Company of Grocers. On 23 June 1629 he was elected an alderman of the City of London for Cordwainer ward. He was Sheriff of London in 1629 and 1630.〔( 'Chronological list of aldermen: 1601-1650', The Aldermen of the City of London: Temp. Henry III - 1912 (1908), pp. 47-75. Date accessed: 16 July 2011 )〕 In 1629, he purchased the grounds of Swakeleys House from John Bingley, who had undertaken extensive remedial work on an existing 13th century structure in the grounds〔Bowlt, Eileen. M. (1996) ''Ickenham & Harefield Past''. London: Historical Publications ISBN 0-948667-36-2, p.19〕—probably timber-framed and wattle filled.〔Hughes, Morris. W. (1983) ''The Story of Ickenham''. Uxbridge: London Borough of Hillingdon ISBN 0-907869-04-1, p.24〕 Between 1629 and 1638 he rebuilt the house as a brick structure.〔Newbery, M; Cotton, Carolynne; Packham, Julie Ann & Jones, Gwyn. (1996) ''Around Ruislip''. Stroud: The Chalfont Publishing Company ISBN 0-7524-0688-4, p.19〕
In 1640 Wright became Lord Mayor of London after his predecessor was displaced by parliament. He was knighted on 20 June 1641 and was president of St. Thomas' Hospital from 1642 to 1643.〔

By two wives, Wright had two sons (who died young) and six daughters, three of whom married respectively Sir James Harrington, 3rd Baronet, Sir Richard Atkyns and Sir Robert Cordell, 1st Baronet.〔( 'Notes on the aldermen, 1502-1700', The Aldermen of the City of London: Temp. Henry III - 1912 (1908), pp. 168-195. Date accessed: 15 July 2011 )〕
